Privacy Policy
What Rec Sports Team Connect collects, who can see it, and how to remove it. Last updated August 27, 2026.
This policy applies to connect.recsportsteam.com — the app you use to find teams and fill rosters. The main site at recsportsteam.com has its own privacy policy and its own advertising, which this app does not carry.
In short
- We show no ads, and we never sell your information.
- Measurement happens only if a signed-out visitor accepts it, and never once you are signed in — see Cookies and measurement.
- Signing in uses one cookie of our own, and nothing else.
- Your profile is visible to signed-in members — not to the public or search engines.
- Your gender is never shown on your profile. A captain sees it only when their team has a gender restriction and you have applied to it.
- Messages are private between you and the other person, with one exception: if a conversation is reported, an administrator can read it.
- You can delete your account yourself at any time.
What we collect
What you give us
To create an account: your email address, first name, city and a username. A last name is optional.
To use the app: your gender, and confirmation that you are 18 or over.
On your player profile (all optional except a display name): a display name, profile photo, the sports you play, your skill level in each, the days you are available, and a short bio.
As you use the app: the listings you post, the applications you send, the messages you write, and any reports you file about another member.
What we record automatically
- Your IP address, when you request a sign-in link and when an administrator takes an action on your account.
- A record of your agreements: the date you confirmed your age, and the date and version of the Terms & Conditions you accepted.
- Email delivery records: the address each email was sent to, its subject line, and whether it was delivered.
From Google
If you choose Continue with Google, Google tells us your Google account's email address and first and last name. We never receive your password, and we do not post anything to your Google account. If you sign in with an emailed link instead, Google is not involved.
Why we use it
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | To sign you in, and to send the notifications you have turned on |
| Name, username, city | To identify you to other members and show you local listings |
| Gender | To determine which teams you are eligible for, when a team is restricted to one gender by its league |
| Age confirmation | The app is for adults — see Age requirement |
| Sports, skill, availability | To match you to listings and show captains who is applying |
| Messages | To deliver them to the person you are talking to |
| IP address | To detect abuse of the sign-in system, and to keep an accountable record of administrator actions |
| Reports | To investigate conduct on the platform |
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who can see what
Anyone, including people without an account, and search engines: the listings you post — team name, sport, city, skill level, game day and time, season dates, description and open spots — together with your display name and profile photo as the captain of that listing.
Signed-in members: your profile page — display name, username, city, bio, sports and skill levels, availability and photo. Your profile is not visible to signed-out visitors and is excluded from search engines.
A captain you have applied to: everything on your profile, plus your application. If their team has a gender restriction, they also see your gender, so they can apply the restriction they declared. They do not see your email address.
Administrators: all of the above, plus your email address, gender, sign-in method, account status, and the dates you confirmed your age and accepted the terms. Two administrator abilities are worth stating plainly:
- Reading a reported conversation. If either person in a conversation reports the other, an administrator can open and read it. This is limited to conversations attached to a report, and every time one is opened it is recorded.
- Signing in as you. An administrator can view the app as your account to investigate a problem. Every time this starts and stops, it is recorded.
Never shown on your profile: your email address, your gender, or your age confirmation.
Messages, reports and moderation
Messages between a captain and an accepted player are stored so they can be delivered and read later. You can edit or delete any message you sent, and a captain can delete an entire conversation, which removes it for both people, including the messages you wrote. An edited message is marked as edited to the person reading it.
When you edit or delete a message, we keep a copy of what it originally said — not visible to you or to the other person, only to administrators, and only so that a report can still be investigated. Deleting the evidence would otherwise be the easiest way to defeat a report. That copy is deleted 90 days after the edit or deletion. If the conversation has been reported, it is kept for as long as the report is.
If you report another member:
- Your report goes only to administrators. The person you reported is not told that you reported them, or who reported them.
- Your identity is recorded on the report and is visible to administrators.
- If you report from within a conversation, that conversation is attached so an administrator can read it without asking you to repeat what happened.
- Reports are kept permanently, including after review, so that a pattern of behaviour across several reports can be seen.
If an account is suspended, we keep the date, the reason, and which administrator suspended it.
Emails we send
| Can you turn it off? | |
|---|---|
| Your sign-in link | No — it is how you sign in |
| Someone applied to your listing | Yes, in your profile |
| Your application was accepted or declined | Yes, in your profile |
| A player left your team | Yes, in your profile |
| A new listing matches you | Yes, in your profile |
| You have unread messages | Yes, in your profile |
Every one of these is about your own activity. We send no marketing email from this app, and there is no mailing list attached to it.
Cookies and measurement
Our own cookie. The app sets one cookie, rst_session, which
keeps you signed in as you move between pages. It holds no personal information — only a
random identifier — and it is deleted when you sign out.
Google Tag Manager, only if you accept it. On our public pages we ask whether you are willing to be measured. Nothing loads until you say yes — declining, or simply ignoring the banner, means no measurement container is ever placed on the page.
If you accept, Google receives technical information about your visit, including your IP address, the page you are on, and your browser and device type, and tools loaded through the container may set their own cookies. Your answer is remembered in a cookie for six months so we do not ask again on every page.
Signed-in members are never measured. Once you have an account, no analytics of any kind loads for you — not on your profile, your applications, your messages, the reporting form, or anywhere else. Measurement applies only to signed-out visitors on public pages.
We do not use any of this to show you advertising, and we do not sell your information. Google handles the data it receives under its own privacy policy.
Age requirement
This app is for adults. Creating an account requires confirming that you are 18 or over, and we record the date you confirmed it. We do not knowingly allow accounts for anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has an account, contact us and we will remove it.
How long we keep things
| Data | Kept |
|---|---|
| Your account and profile | Until you delete your account |
| Listings, applications, messages | Until deleted by you, deleted by the captain, or removed with your account |
| Original text of an edited or deleted message | 90 days after the edit or deletion — or as long as the report, if the conversation was reported |
| Sign-in links | Expire after 15 minutes; deleted about a day later |
| Reports | Permanently, so a pattern of behaviour across several reports stays visible |
| Administrator action records | 12 months |
| Email delivery records | 30 days |
What deleting your account does
Deleting your account, from your profile page, immediately:
- erases your name, email address, username, city, Google link, profile and photo — your email and username are freed, so you could sign up again from scratch;
- deletes every listing you posted, and with it the applications and conversations on those listings;
- deletes every message you sent, anywhere;
- hands back your roster spot on any team you had been accepted to, so the captain can recruit again.
We keep an empty, anonymous placeholder record so that other people's applications and conversations do not break. It contains no information about you.
Deletion cannot be undone, and reports filed about you are kept.
Where your data is stored
The app and its database are hosted on servers operated by our hosting provider in the United States. If you are in Canada, this means your information is stored outside Canada and may be accessible to US authorities under US law.
How we protect it
- There is no password to steal — you sign in with a link emailed to you, or with Google.
- Sign-in links expire after 15 minutes, work once, and are stored only as a one-way hash.
- The whole site is served over HTTPS.
- Uploaded images are stored so they cannot be executed as program code.
- Administrator actions on accounts are recorded.
Profile photos are stored outside the public web space and handed out only by the app, which checks who is asking. Signed-in members can see them; a signed-out visitor can only see the photo of a captain whose listing is currently public, which is the photo already shown on that listing's page.
